Cornell Fashion Collective’s 32nd Annual Runway Show!

Cornell Fashion Collective’s 32nd Annual Runway Show! By: Eleni Toubanos Each year the Cornell Fashion Collective runway show attracts over 2,500 attendees. Preparation for a large-scale runway event requires a year of preparation and mutual CornellFashion1cooperation between an 7 executive board members, 37 designers, and a team of management students. Executive board members plan the logistics of the event down to the second. Designers spend long hours sewing, cutting, dyeing, and embroidering in studio. Management students plan publicity events, advertise for the show, and promote ticket sales. Although Cornell has a Fiber Science & Apparel Design major, the Cornell Fashion Collective encourages students from all majors to participate. This year Hotel Administration, Engineering, and Architecture majors are working together to plan an interesting event. In addition to preparing for this year’s show, CFC members hosted our first flash fashion show (watch here). Student models strutted through Cornell’s campus in designs from previous shows. CornellFashion2During the fall semester Laurence Xu, renowned Chinese designer, visited Cornell’s campus. In his honor CFC co-sponsored Cornell’s first “Couture Night” at the Johnson Museum of Art. Over 500 attendees attended the one-night exhibition featuring 15 couture looks. Mr. Xu was present to explain his inspiration and design process. With two weeks until the show day, designers are extremely busy completing their collections. Drawing inspiration from Mondrian to video gaming to the depths of the ocean, a variety of inspirations will result in an interesting runway show that should not be missed.
