AATCC: Global by Design

AATCC is a global organization. Members come from across the textile industry and from around the world. AATCC standards are developed, specified, and performed around the world. AATCC standards adhere to the World Trade Organization (WTO) guidelines on international standards under the agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade. The WTO defines six principles for the development of international standards.

1. Transparency 2. Openness 3. Impartiality and Consensus 4. Effectiveness and Relevance 5. Coherence 6. Development Dimension

AATCC takes practical measures to refrain from duplicating standards that exist in its own and other organizations. Harmonization may not always be possible or practical, especially if it means compromising the methodology’s intent; however, AATCC frequently works with other organizations to harmonize standards where it makes them simpler, clearer, or less costly to perform.

Stay Informed

Twice a year, AATCC publishes new and revised standards. AATCC provides notice of developmental standards and topics under consideration by posting the research committee notes, minutes, and project listings through its transparency practices. For a list of current research committee projects, visit https://aatcc.org/join/#committees. Highlights include work on a scouring monograph, adapting an electrostatic decay method, and several interlaboratory studies.

Get Involved

The next round of research committee meetings will be May 10-12. Due to the ongoing pandemic, all meetings will be held remotely. There is never a charge to attend. See a complete schedule and register at https://aatcc.org/aatcc-events/research. AATCC affords sympathetic consideration to, and adequate opportunity for, consultation regarding representations with its open committee membership policy. Any interested party may join a research committee as a non-voting member. Ideation, diverse perspectives, and consensus are the cornerstones of AATCC standard development.
