By combining textiles with metals or ceramics, and quantifying the resulting effects of these combinations on the total heat transfer, multi-material textiles integrated into clothing can be developed for enhancing human comfort.
About the Speaker:

Dr. Haskell Beckham is Vice President, Innovation for Columbia Sportswear, driving innovation strategy, planning and execution in apparel, footwear, and accessories. Prior to joining Columbia, Dr. Beckham was a Principal Scientist at Exponent, a leading scientific and engineering consulting firm, and a Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr. Beckham has degrees in textile chemistry (BS, Auburn), and in chemistry (PhD, MIT) with a focus on materials. He has served as a Director on the Emerging Technologies Council of the Advanced Textiles Association (ATA), and as a member of the Executive Committee on Research for the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC). He is the 2024 recipient of the Olney Medal, AATCC’s highest scientific award.
About the Moderator:

Apurba Banerjee, Materials Interest Group Chair, is a Textile Research Scientist at Standard Textile Corporation (STC). As a key member of the Research and Development department, she plays a pivotal role in bringing sustainable, value-added products to life in the realms of Hospitality, Healthcare, and Interiors. Banerjee is a proud alumna of the University of Georgia, where she earned her Ph.D. in Polymer, Fiber, and Textile Science in 2017. Prior to that, she honed her craft at Colorado State University, graduating with a master’s degree in Apparel and Merchandising in 2013. Banerjee has a passion for advancing industry benchmarks through her multiple voluntary leadership roles in organizations like AATCC and ASTM International. This meeting is open to all AATCC Members!
