In this session, Brittani will provide valuable insights into marble printing of fabrics and how it interconnects with fashion and art.

About the Artist

Brittani Locke

Brittani Locke is a Maryland-based fabric artist, printmaker, and founder of The Soft Asylum, a marbling studio focused on hand marbled silk scarves, wearable forms, marbled papers, and contemporary surface design. Her work draws from traditional Ebru and water marbling techniques while extending the process into textiles, fashion, and experimental pattern development.

Each piece is created individually, balancing controlled pattern work with the fluid, organic behavior of pigment, surface tension, and movement unique to the marbling bath. Locke received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, with a specialization in printmaking, and has developed her practice through years of dedicated study, experimentation, and mentorship under master marblers Dan and Regina St. John. Her printmaking background informs her approach to marbling as both a historical craft and a living, evolving method of image-making. Through The Soft Asylum, Locke creates limited collections of silk scarves, men’s neckwear, accessories, and marbled papers, while also sharing her process through teaching, demonstrations, and public documentation. Her work has intersected with fashion, book arts, and design, including collaborations with major designers and brands. Her practice continues to explore the possibilities of marbling as a contemporary textile and surface design language.”
