Join the Concept 2 Consumer (C2C) Interest Group members for a review of Color Tolerances and an expert panel discussion featuring leaders from retail, textiles, and apparel. Hear real-world insights on how companies implement tolerances, the efficiencies and challenges they’ve encountered, and how product types influence their approach. The discussion will also cover how tolerances are defined and how teams like design and merchandising are engaged in the process.

 

Color Tolerancing Review

Ken Butts, Global Key Account Team Manager for Datacolor, has been working with textile and apparel brands to optimize their color management processes for over 30 years. Through in-depth analysis of customer’s existing product development processes, Ken helps the world’s most well-known brands implement effective color management solutions and streamline their supply chains. His deep sense of dedication and commitment to customers coupled with decades of experience makes him one of the most highly sought out experts in his field.

 

 

Color Management Industry Panel Discussion:

Carol Revels, Director of Color, has held previous roles leading Color, Sustainability, Fabric Operations, and Testing in her nearly fourteen years with Lands’ End. Revels’ prior experience includes being Director of Global Color at Gap Inc., and leading Color Science and Management roles in the Textile industry with Cone Mills, SheLyn Inc., Spartan Mills, and Burlington Industries. Revels earned her Masters and Bachelor of Science degrees in Textile Chemistry from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. Revels joined AATCC in 1985 and has been an active long-time member. Revels has served as Chairperson of RA36 Color Measurement Committee and the Education Advisory Board and served on the AATCC Board of Directors.

 

Tim Williams, Marketing Manager, at Color Solutions International since 2010 has expertise in major application techniques for preparation, dyeing, printing, finishing fabrics, and garment washing in the laboratory, sample and bulk production settings. He has functional knowledge of all major dye classes and properties and expertise with computer assisted shade formulation, quality control, and color communication.

   

Jessica Brooks is an accomplished colorist with over 15 years in the textile industry, currently working at W. L. Gore & Associates since 2021. Her prior roles at Darlington Fabrics & Brookwood Companies further enriched her expertise in color science and textile applications. In addition to her professional role, Jessica serves as the chair of the AATCC RISE Interest Group, president of the Delaware Valley section, and a member of the AATCC board of directors. She also shares her knowledge as adjunct faculty at Thomas Jefferson University, teaching the color, dyeing and finishing course.

   

Thomas Braun, Technical Director at Swisstex, has worked for over 26 years in Textile manufacturing, and was running the Dyeing operations of Swisstex. He started about 20 years ago working and experimenting with Digital Color measurements and the data management. 10 years ago, Under Armour required the NATIFIC CAP Color accreditation which then opened up the way to digital color management at Swisstex company wide shortly after.

   

A 25 plus year veteran in the CPG industry, Simon Thayil brings a wealth of knowledge and real world experiences in the application of color management principles and color product development in textiles, plastics, foams, paint, and ink. Having held roles in automotive plastics manufacturing industries and at Corporate retail headquarters for Fortune 500 companies, he places a high emphasis on color quality and speed to market while taking partners in seeing the color portion of the task done using both visual and instrumental color assessment methods. With a firm foundation in color science, and a strong lean towards electronic color assessment methods, he seeks to either eliminate or reduce human bias where possible while collaborating, educating and mentoring others to further their own goals in color management.

Chris Hipps, Chair of the Concept to Consumer Interest Group, is the Global Director of the Color Management business at Archroma. He has been with Archroma since 2014. Prior to this, from 1998 to 2014, he was with Datacolor, Oxco, and CAE Simuflite in various technical, sales, and marketing positions. Beginning his career as a process engineer and shift dyeing manager at Dixie Yarns’ Caroknit division, he graduated from NC State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Textile Science and then earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Hipps has been a member of AATCC since 1992.
