You are invited to our upcoming Fall meeting in Seattle!

The meeting will take place on Thursday, October 24th 2019, starting at 1:00pm with a presentation and tour of Eurofins Consumer Product Testing US facility in Bothell, Washington.  Eurofins is a leading international group of laboratories providing an unparalleled range of testing and support services to industries and governments in regards to pharmaceutical, food, environmental and consumer products.

Eurofins will give us a brief recap of the company and their laboratory capabilities, and then discuss the testing requirements associated with Proposition 65 and REACH.  Questions about other regulatory test requirements can also be addressed.

Afterwards, Eurofins would like to host happy hour at a nearby restaurant – several good choices are reasonably close by and the final decision will be made by Eurofins. Make plans to join your fellow members for all the fun!

Past Activities

Thursday April 25, 2019
Join C-Therm Technologies (https://ctherm.com/) for a  free workshop in partnership with the NW AATCC chapter, to learn more about quantifying “warm feel” and “cool touch” via ASTM D7984. C-Therm works with leading textile and apparel brands in quantifying thermal performance. Specifically, C-Therm’s patented instrumentation measures the effusivity of materials.

Thermal Effusivity (also called “thermal inertia”) is defined as the rate at which a material can absorb heat. It is the thermophysical property that describes whether a textile feels warm and cozy, or cool to the touch. The property is measured with the use of C-Therm’s MTPS (Modified Transient Plane Source) method and can be applied to both dry and wetted fabrics. Effusivity is a critical performance attribute of textiles intended to improve thermal regulation of the end user. Learn more about how product managers, innovation teams and researchers in claims validation are employing the patented MTPS sensor technology in characterizing the “Warm Feel” or “Cool Touch” of textiles. Attendees are encouraged to bring samples for LIVE performance testing. Minimum 18 mm in diameter (no maximum), 3 to 4 layers.

Join C-therm afterwards for some drinks, food and good conversation at the Jackrabbit Bar (located inside the Duniway Hotel).

November 15, 2018 – Fall meeting in Seattle
2pm to 5pm
Tour and presentation to begin at 2:00pm
Location: Vicis headquarters building, located in South Lake Union

Vicis will give us a brief history of the company along with a design-focused overview of the Zero1 football helmet, then wrap up with a test lab tour.  The presentation/tour is expected to take about an hour, give or take depending on questions. As a heads-up they will need all members of our group to sign a simple NDA form onsite because some of what they’ll see is confidential.Afterwards we can move over to either the nearby Buca di Beppo Italian restaurant (701 Westlake Ave N, Seattle, WA 98109) or the Cask & Trotter BBQ restaurant (711 Westlake Ave N, Seattle, WA 98109) to continue the meeting and have an early dinner.  Cost: $20  Questions?  Reach out to Dave Heiss (daveh@thermetrics.com) or Scott Echols sechols@saferchemistry.com
