The need for efficient and cost effective filters is growing in significance with the unpredictable changes in climatic conditions world over. Additionally, recent pollution related problems in developing countries and major cities such as Beijing and Mumbai emphasize the need for personal and industrial filters.
This webinar will focus on this timely topic of filtration and endeavor to inform the participants on the basic principles behind filtration and types of filtration such as air and liquid. Recent advances in the field of filtration using nano, sub-micron, and microfilters will be discussed. Commonly used testing method(s) and instrumentation will also be addressed.
The overall goal of this webinar is to provide a basic and general understanding of the field for new entrants in the emerging area of filtration using fibrous substrates.

Dr. Seshadri Ramkumar is currently a Professor of Technical Textiles at Texas Tech University. His research focuses on developing value-added materials using nonwovens and nano technologies. He directs the Nonwoven and Advanced Materials Laboratory at Texas Tech University. He currently holds three US patents. One of his inventions, “Fibertect” has been commercialized and is recommended as a component of next-generation, “Low-cost Personal Decontamination System (LPDS).” He serves on the editorial boards of many international peer-reviewed journals including Journal of Engineered Fibers & Fabrics and AATCC Review. He is the co-chairman of INDA’s India Committee and has played an important role in linking the Indian and US technical textiles industry. He has been awarded Honorary Fellowship of the Textile Association (India) and has received the Chancellor’s Distinguished Research Award, highest research award given at Texas Tech University.
Dr. Ramkumar is an active member of AATCC where he is the chair of the Materials Interest Group and on its Board of Directors. He is a frequent presenter at the AATCC International Conference and other Association programs.
