About Down to Earth
AATCC OSU student chapter is proud to present our latest LookBook: Down to Earth. Due to the restrictions of this past year’s pandemic, we could not have our live annual fashion show that we produce at the Oregon State University campus this year. Instead, we took this opportunity to create the second installment of our LookBook series. This virtual book has become a way to connect and share our talent with not only student designers across OSU but also hundreds of people across the country through digital media.
Our theme Down to Earth was inspired by our club’s interest in sustainability and creating eco-conscious clothing. The high-speed fashion industry is one of the leading causes of environmental damage to our planet. It is the second-biggest consumer of water and is responsible for 8-10% of global carbon emissions. Our featured designers represent that creating your own clothes or upcycling old clothing can be more sustainable than consuming new products from large retailers. Designing your own garments can have numerous benefits such as they can be customized to your perfect size, unique style, and the fabric can be reused to create something completely different later.
Having a live fashion show in the past was an amazing experience, and we look forward to having more in the future, however our LookBook has shown our members that we can conquer any obstacles that are put before us. We would like to give a special thanks to our club supervisor and OSU Apparel Design instructor Ann Vong for supporting our club. She has been a tremendous help with both resources and her willingness to make sure AATCC Student Chapter is successful. As Chair, I am incredibly proud of the work we have created in this book all while solely meeting with each other over Zoom, or virtually. I hope you enjoy our designers’ creations and our 2021 Down to Earth LookBook.
