The preparation webinar will cover yarn and fabric lubricants/finishes and/or sizes that must be removed before subsequent processing, analysis to aid identification of materials to be removed, types of preparation, preparation chemicals and some of the machinery utilized for preparing yarn and fabric. Emphasis will be on the major fibers used in textiles, such as cotton, polyester and their blends, but the webinar will also cover other fibers including elastane blends.

Edwin T. Turner is Associate Director, Technical Services at Cotton Incorporated where he manages the analytical laboratory and is the point person for technical service to solve problems for mills and retail brands. In addition, Ed has responsibility for working with textile mills and retail brands to successfully implement new technologies in North America, South America plus Europe and Asia as needed. Ed has been employed at Cotton Incorporated since September 2001 first as Manager, Color and Technical Services, later as a senior chemist in the Preparation and Dyeing Research group and then Manager, Technology Implementation.
Prior to Cotton Incorporated, Ed has performed technical and management functions involving preparation, dyeing/shade matching, finishing, technical service, analysis, product formulation and related functions at Cone Mills Corp. (Technical Center and Carlisle Finishing), UM&M (Old Fort Finishing), Synthron, Ciba-Geigy and Burlington Research/Burlington Chemical Company. He received his bachelor degree in chemistry at Wake Forest University and is a senior member of American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) and the American Chemical Society (ACS).
