The Clorox Company
Headquartered in Oakland, Calif., USA, The Clorox Company is a manufacturer of a variety of brand names, including its namesake bleach and cleaning products. Nearly 90 percent of Clorox Company brands hold the No. 1 or No. 2 market share positions in their categories. The company’s products are manufactured in more than 24 countries and sold in more than 100 countries.
On May 3, 1913, five entrepreneurs—a banker, a wood and coal purveyor, a bookkeeper, a lawyer, and a miner—invested US$100 each to set up America’s first commercial-scale liquid bleach factory, located in Oakland, Calif., USA. Their goal was to convert the brine available from the nearby salt ponds of San Francisco Bay into sodium hypochlorite bleach, using an electrolysis process. The company was originally called the Electro-Alkaline Co. The name suggested for the new product came from the words “chlorine” and “sodium hydroxide”, which is a combination of the bleach’s active ingredients, to form the amalgam, “Clorox.”
Inter-Society Color Council
The Inter-Society Color Council (ISCC) was founded in 1931 to advance knowledge of color as it relates to art, science, and industry. Each of these fields enriches the others, furthering the general objective of color education. The ISCC offers three types of membership: individual, member-bodies, and sustaining.
Member bodies are national and international organizations whose members have a professional interest in color. AATCC is currently a member body of ISCC. The council meets annually for project committee reports, seminars, workshops, and lectures. The ISCC is a forum for stimulation and cross pollination of ideas among its members, leading to an enlightened understanding of color and color science.
