Olney Medal Award   Recipients

The inscription on the Olney Medal signifies an individual's outstanding contribution to the textile industry, whether through research in textile or polymer chemistry or in other fields of chemistry important to textiles.

The Olney Award and accompanying Medal is the AATCC's oldest, most distinguished scientific award. It was established in the early 1940s by A.P. Howes, who had a two-fold purpose in mind: first, to "encourage and . . . afford public recognition of outstanding achievement in, or contribution to, the field of textile chemistry" and second, "to be a testimonial to Olney and his contributions to the field." The first Olney Award and Medal went to Howe's intended recipient, Louis Olney during the 1944 fall committee meetings. The 2010 Olney Medal Award Committee is chaired by Frank Little, Jr., M. Dohmen, USA.

Any senior member of AATCC may submit a nomination. Each nominee's qualifications are evaluated by the committee without regard to the number of nominations for a particular candidate. The candidate does not necessarily have to be a member of AATCC.

Harold C. Chapin Award    Recipients

The Chapin Award, a beautifully illustrated scroll, is presented each year to a senior member of AATCC, who has dedicated 20 or more years of continuous service to the Association, furthering the Association's mission, service and outreach in textile education, research, and communication.

The Chapin Award was established in 1959. It was named for its first recipient, Harold C. Chapin, who served as secretary of AATCC for 25 years.

The Harold C. Chapin Award Committee is chaired by Michael Tyndall of Cotton, Inc.  Nominations may be submitted by senior members of AATCC.

Henry E. Millson Award for Invention
Recipients

The Henry E. Millson Award for Invention was established in 1979 to recognize and encourage contributions to textile technology. This Award is named in honor of Henry E. Millson, renowned scientist, research and textile chemist.

A nominated invention should be recognized as an innovation, and will be judged for its merits and its impact on the US textile, fiber, polymer, and medical industries. It is not necessary that the invention be patented. The award is not limited to citizens of the US or to members of AATCC. The award can be given to more than one individual and may be given posthumously.

The Henry E. Millson Award for Invention Committee is chaired by Henry Boyter, Institute Of Textile Technology, NC State University.

Awards will be presented at the AATCC International Conference to be co-located with ATME-I MEGATEX as part of the Textile and Sewn Products Industry Week, May 18-20, 2010 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.
