Charles E. Gavin III Family Scholarship

A US$5,000 scholarship is awarded each year.  This scholarship rotates among six southeastern universities that offer degrees in textile chemistry and related programs.  Each participating university provides matching funds, allowing the student recipient to receive US$1,250 from the Gavin Family Scholarship and US$1,250 from the participating university, for a total of US$2,500 per semester.  Students who receive this scholarship may be eligible to have it renewed for a second year.

Eligibility: Rising freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior at Auburn University (Chemical Engineering and Polymer and Fiber Engineering), Clemson University, Georgia Institute of Technology, North Carolina State University, or University of Georgia.

Selection Criteria

  • Native-born, US citizen, eligible for in-state tuition
  • Demonstrated leadership in school or community
  • Financial need
  • SAT scores
  • Academic expectancy to graduate
  • Work experience and history

University Rotation Schedule

Eligible students from Clemson University and the University of Georgia may submit applications to their advisors by early March 2010.  Scholarship recipients are chosen in the late Spring and will receive US$2,500 for the Fall 2010 semester and US$2,500 for the Spring 2011 semester.  The university rotation schedule is as follow

Clemson University, Polymer & Fiber Chemistry

Student faculty advisors may nominate eligible students.

     If you are eligible for this scholarship, please fill out the Scholarship Application Form. 

MAIL application and required information to:  GAVIN FAMILY Scholarship, c/o AATCC Technical Center, PO Box 12215, Research Triangle Park, NC   27709-2215.

Nominations are due to AATCC by March 31. Schools will be notified of the committee's selection by May 30.
