AATCC now offers several Proficiency Testing Programs. The first program launched in 2002, includes the AATCC Colorfastness Test Methods 8, 15, 16E (currently 16-Option 3), 61, and 107. The second program that began in March 2004, includes the AATCC Appearance Test Methods 88B, 88C, 124, and 135. In November 2006, we began offering a program that includes the AATCC Water Resistance and Repellency Test Methods 22, 35, 42, and 127.

These proficiency testing programs allow companies to determine how their laboratories perform in comparison with others around the globe. Samples are sent from the AATCC Technical Center to participating laboratories along with instructions and report forms. Those laboratories are asked to perform the required tests on the fabric samples provided by AATCC and return their completed report forms to AATCC.

AATCC then compiles the data and sends a summary report to the participating laboratories. Each laboratory is assigned an anonymous lab code, and only those laboratories that participated receive the summary report.

• The Colorfastness Proficiency Program is administered twice per year in June and December. A fee of $300 is assessed to each participating laboratory for the full year.
  
• The Appearance Proficiency Program is administered twice per year in March and September. A fee of $450 is assessed to each participating laboratory for the full year.
  
• The Water Resistance/Repellency Proficiency Program is administered twice per year in May and November. A fee of $450 is assessed to each participating laboratory for the full year.
