AATCC Test Method 102-2007

Determination of Hydrogen Peroxide by

Potassium Permanganate Titration

Developed in 1957 by AATCC Committee RA34

1.  Purpose and Scope

1.1  This test method determines the concentration of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in aqueous solutions, particularly those used in textile bleaching.

2.  Principle

2.1  A specimen is acidified with sulfuric acid and titrated with standardized potassium permanganate solution.  The concentration of hydrogen peroxide is calculated using the volume and normality of the permanganate solution used.
